Talkio Privacy Policy

Talkio is designed for children, used together with a parent or guardian. Talkio does not require any personal information to function — there is no account, no email, and no sign-in. This policy explains the small amount of information the app does use, why, and how a parent can control or delete it.

Who this app is for

Talkio is a speech and pronunciation practice app for children (roughly ages 4–7), intended to be used with a parent or guardian nearby. Anywhere this policy says "you," it means the parent or guardian managing the app on the child's behalf.

Information we collect

Microphone audio. When your child taps the microphone to practice a word or sentence, that audio is processed in real time by Apple's on-device Speech framework to generate a text transcript, which the app compares against the target word to give feedback. This is required for the app's core feature — hearing your child repeat a word and checking their pronunciation. Talkio does not record, save, or transmit that audio itself.
A random device identifier. On first launch, the app generates a random identifier stored in the device's Keychain (which may sync via iCloud Keychain to your other devices signed into the same Apple ID, and can persist across reinstalling the app). It isn't linked to your name, email, or any account — there's no sign-up or login in this app at all.
Practice progress. Detailed session history (which words were practiced, correct/incorrect, timestamps) is stored locally on the device. Aggregate totals — words attempted, words correct, sessions completed, and streak days — are additionally stored against the random device identifier via Firebase, so they can power the in-app Parent Dashboard and the leaderboard.
An optional name. A parent can optionally enter a name or nickname — for the in-app greeting, and/or a display name on the leaderboard. This is never verified as a real identity and is optional; if left unset, the app assigns a generic placeholder name instead.
Subscription purchases. If a parent subscribes to Talkio Premium, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple's App Store. Talkio never receives or stores payment card details.

What we don't collect

No account creation, no email address, no location data, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party analytics SDK beyond the aggregate practice totals described above. Voice audio is never saved or stored by Talkio.

Advertising

Talkio shows ads (via Google AdMob) to fund free access, and offers an ad-free subscription. Because this app is used by children, ad requests are configured for child-directed treatment: no behavioral or personalized advertising, and no advertising identifier (IDFA) is collected. Ads are limited to Google's "General" content rating. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Ads Policy for how Google itself handles ad delivery.

Parental controls

Subscription management, progress reports, and other settings are placed behind a Parent Area that requires solving a simple randomized math problem — intended to keep a young child from making purchases or changing settings without a parent present.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

We do not knowingly collect more information from children than described above, do not use it for behavioral advertising, and do not sell it. A parent can review, correct, or request deletion of any information associated with their device by contacting us (below) — since the app has no login, please include the approximate date you contacted us and, if possible, the name you set in the app so we can locate the record.

Your rights under GDPR (EU / UK users)

Talkio is available worldwide, including in the EU and UK. If you're in the EU/UK, you have the right to:

Access the information associated with your device identifier
Correct it (e.g. the optional name)
Have it erased ("right to be forgotten")
Restrict or object to certain processing
Receive a copy of it in a portable format

Since Talkio has no accounts or login, we identify a record only by the random device identifier and, if set, the name you chose — contact us (below) to exercise any of these rights. Talkio relies on legitimate interest to operate core app functionality (recognizing speech, tracking progress) and, for advertising, on serving only non-personalized, child-directed ads rather than on tracking-based consent. Because Talkio uses Apple, Google Firebase, and Google AdMob to operate — all of which run on international infrastructure — information may be processed outside your country under those providers' own safeguards.

How information is shared

We don't sell personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers that operate the app's core features: Apple (speech recognition, App Store purchases), Google Firebase (storing progress/leaderboard data), and Google AdMob (serving ads), each governed by their own privacy terms.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
